LEV TESTING
Local Exhaust Ventilation Testing
Regular LEV Tests by a competent person are a legal requirement of CoSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations. This applies to all oil mist, welding fume, smoke and dust extraction units.
Here at HM Extraction Services, all tests meet HSE requirements, Regulation 9 of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations and the guidance in HSG258 which states that COSHH tests must be carried out at least once every 14 months on Local Exhaust Ventilation Systems (LEV) - more regular for some substances and processes.
HM Extraction's LEV testing service has been designed to support you in meeting your legal obligations. In recognising that this requirement places a burden on you, we offer to manage and perform the necessary statutory inspections and testing on your behalf.
All engineers are qualified to British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) P601 standard. To ensure you are compliant with HSE Regulations ensure that your LEV testers are qualified to P601 to do the job - as many other companies are not qualified.

What is LEV?
Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) is a machine that extracts air from a process as a way of controlling and reducing the exposure of workers to dust, fumes and vapor which could be hazardous to their health.
Why do I need LEV testing?
It is a legal requirement, as set out in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, for any employer to maintain working conditions for employees. Any employer that uses LEV techniques in the workplace must have equipment examined and tested at least “every 14 months” to ensure it is working effectively and safely.
Why do I need it?
Every year, thousands of workers in Britain develop occupational diseases from breathing in certain dusts, fumes or other airborne contaminants at work. Local Exhaust Ventilation, often called dust or fume extraction, can help clean the air, before people breathe in these harmful substances.
What does LEV testing involve?
A thorough examination of equipment including hoods, filters and ducts, measurement of the technical performance using the appropriate equipment and assessment of the effectiveness of the LEV system. HM Extraction will make recommendations should your system not be up to the required standard. All work is carried out according to HSE guidance which governs LEV testing.
